  Are you at school early in the morning? Ms. Clark in the Primary phase is looking for a student to assist with morning patrols around the Cedar Kindergarten. The patrol begins at8:15am and ends at 8:30am. You be required to make sure that the kindergarten children are in the area safely and playing constructively. Saturday, 9 April 2011 Babysitting Opportunity On this night, Cedar will be hosting their annual Gala Auction to raise money for our school. There will be a number of parents who will attend this event, many with small children who will need supervision for that evening. Ms. Jaeda is looking to organise some Cedar School babysitters to look after these children for the evening. Students who sign up for this opportunity will receive hours for the time that they babysit. Each student will be assigned to a family close to where they live, and will stay with the children at their home for that evening.   Saturday, 19 March 2011 Want to get into sailing? The local sailing organisation Kids and the Sea (K.A.T.S) are preparing for their upcoming season, and are looking for volunteers to help "dress" the boats. This involves bringing their boats out of storage and preparing them for use in the spring programme. Key details: - Students must meet at the KATS trailer, just on the harbour side of the BVI Marine Police base at 10:00am. - Bring along a hat, sunblock and water. Students will be responsible for helping officials on board with various tasks. Key details: - Students need to meet at the BVISR Village at Nanny Cay at 8am. - The boat is located near the Taxi rank. Congratulations to Barney Nockolds on circumnavigating the island last Saturday in aid of Help for Heroes U.K. We are most proud of Barney for pursuing such a worthy CISCAS project! Barney and Craig Smith, along with at least 10 others, cycled and ran Tortola to raise money for the organisation. It is hoped that other students will feel inspired by Barney's efforts and make a difference in their community too.   Tuesday, 8th March and Tuesday, 15th March Let's get creative! Sculpture artist Dianne Renshaw will be hosting a two-session workshop at Cedar International School on these dates from 3:10 - 5:00 (each session) Students will create Recycled Sculpture (using found/recycled objects) that will be taken to the UK and displayed/sold during the Oxfordshire Art Weeks in May 2011. This show will help to raise money for Haiti Hands on Volunteers and the Haitian Orphanages. The sculptures will be created under the theme of: 'Flying Creatures' in a show called Everyone's an Artist: Garden of Mystery and Suspense. WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING? - Recycled or found objects - Natural drift woods, sea fans, coconuts or shells - Synthetic materials such as old buttons, bottle tops, cans, bottles, containers - Anything else you think would make a great flying creature! Saturday, 26th February 2011 Barney Nockolds and Craig Smith have arranged a slow run and cycle event on this day to raise money for British soldiers who have lost limbs during recent conflicts globally. Participants can choose to run or cycle this event - both of which will be slow-paced. You may choose to run or cycle as much as you want (1/2 an hour up to the full 8 hour event!) You will receive Community and Service hours based on how much you complete on the day. ESSENTIALS TO BRING WITH YOU: Water (*There will be no water stations on route) Snacks Sun Hat THE ROUTE: Begin at Trellis Bay at 6:00am moving to Cane Garden Bay. Through Long Bay to West End, along the coastal road to Road Town, then back over the hills to Trellis Bay to finish. You can also support this cause by purchasing a "Help for Heroes" wristband. These cost $3.00 each and are available from Barney Nockolds, Sensus Gym and Best of British. Friday, 25th February 2011 The B.V.I AIDS Foundation will be hosting a fundraiser party at the Governor's residence on this date. The function will begin at 6:30pm and should be over by 8:30pm. Volunteers will be required to help with the selling of raffle tickets at the event, as well as serving light snacks to guests. PLEASE NOTE: This opportunity is only open to Grades 9 - 12 and is based on a first-come, first-serve basis. The Grade 6 class will be hosting a "Walk for Water" event beginning at the well in Sea Cows Bay at 8:30am, walking to Nanny Cay. At the end of the walk, refreshments and snacks will be available, including free pizza for all those who complete the walk! Please ensure that you collect your sponsorship form from Mr. Jenkinson or a Grade 6 class members as this is a fundraiser and you are expected to raise some money for such. Any students who intend to participate in this walk must still apply online before or after the event so that Mrs. Jones has a record.  Last trimester was a great start for many to their Community and Service hours, with some students clocking as many as 60 hours with our opportunities!
